40 Days and 40 Nights

40 Days and 40 Nights

Growing up as a Catholic, it was my obligation to go church every Ash Wednesday and receive ashes as a sign of…..I don’t remember.  It was the beginning of Lent-that’s all I remember.  The nuns that taught me for 12 years (and my mother) would have a fit if they knew this.

At the beginning of every Lenten season, it was impressed upon us to ‘give something up for Lent.’  Things like fighting with your siblings and sweets were always common.  I always tried to give up going to church for Lent but that went over like a lead balloon with my mother.  It was the same thing every year.  The nuns never encouraged doing something for the 40 days of Lent rather than give something up.

Once I got to college and could decide for myself what I believed in, I chose to give up my Catholic ways for a more scientific view of the universe.  During the course of my life and through much searching I came around to Christianity again, this time without the Catholic attachment (but still with some scientific views).  Believe it or not, Catholics and Christians are two different animals.

Typically, Christians have no Lenten sacrifice; however, once certain things are written on your hard drive, they’re difficult to delete.  While it’s not a sacrifice, I’m going to try to do something for the next 40 days.  I’m going to blog every day.

“Ooh-Big whoop, ” you say.  It is–I don’t always have something to say, I don’t always have time and I don’t always have access to the internet.  So there.

I need to get into the habit of writing everyday if I’m going to be successful with my 100K word WriYe goal (not to mention NaNo).  No better time than now to begin!  Count this as 1 down, 39 to go.
